  • Marriage: Porter C Swift and Lucy Jane Taylor were married in New York, United States.5
  • Death: She died of apoplexy on 4 May 1876 at age ~50 in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. "Lucy Jane Swift, of Belmont, wife of P. C. Swift, of Apoplexy, May the 4th was stricken down with that terrible disease, and lingered about eleven hours, when death came to her relief. She was fifty years of age, and leaves a family and a large circle of friends who deeply mourn her loss, as when alive she always extended the hand of Charity to all who came within her reach, for which she was loved by all both old and young—and thus a mother now is gone, her mission below is o'er. She was suddenly called from our embrace and passed to the other shore."

As we bade adieu to the last remains,
Of a mother and sister true,
We can only say it is God's will
That her cares of life are through.

But when our minds they wander back,
To days that are no more,
We shall often think of Jane with us,
Who has passed to the other shore.6,7
