  • Death: Henry G ("Harry") Huey died on 30 April 1932 at age 65 in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, United States. "Funeral services for Harry Huey, Spanish War veteran, were held in the chapel Tuesday, May 3, 1:30 p.m., with Chaplin E. B. Earle officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars attended in a body and conducted their rites at the grave. Members of Gen. Charles King Auxiliary, of which Mrs. Huey is a member, also attended in a body. From the chapel the Drum Corps, in uniform lead the procession. Throughout the whole service full military honors were bestowed upon this departed veteran, who had many friends because he was a friend himself—great-hearted, cherry and ever ready to lend a helping hand. He died Saturday evening of [sic] heart ailment and dropsy, which had long afflicted him; but a more serious attack sent him to the hospital in an ambulance Saturday morning. Mr. Huey was born at Lake Hallie, Sept. 12, 1865 and he and Mrs. Huey came to Grand Army Home from Eau Claire in 1924, among the first of the Spanish War veterans to become members. He enlisted Co. E., 3rd Wis. Vol. Inf. and served in Porte Rico [sic]. Five of his comrades from Eau Claire came by automobile for his funeral: Gen. R. J. Bates; H. M. Johnson, Post Master; Leonard Loken, Register of Deeds; Al Siebert, R. R. employee; and Wm. Jeppers, S. D. Mail carrier. The following relatives were present for the rites: Mrs. A. M. Huey, sister in law of deceased man, and her daughters, Mrs. Clarence Kittelstedt and Mrs. Smith and husband; and Mrs. Harry Huey's brother, Robert White, all of Eau Claire. A favorite nephew, Albert Huey, resides in Ohio, and was unable to come for his uncle's funeral."5,6
