His funeral will take place this afternoon, at 4 o'clock, from the residence of Mrs. Williams, on Pennsylvania avenue, between 4-1/2 and 6th streets. His friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend without further notice.

    Gen. Covell was formerly a resident of Illinois, where he frequently was called upon to discharge various public trusts, in all of which he acquitted himself with credit and to the satisfaction of the people of that State. For four years past he has been a clerk in the General Land Office in this city, during which period he had endeared himself to a wide circle of friends by the amiability and kindness of his disposition and his general courteous deportment towards all with whom he held intercourse."

    He was born July 22, 1929, in Rushford, a son of the late Silas C. and Stacia Luce Taylor.

    Mr. Taylor retired in 1992 from the Elba Central School System prior to that he also worked at GTE Sylvania. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He attended the United Methodist Church in Rushford and was a former Mason in Rushford prior to moving to Elba in 1964. He enjoyed tractor restoring, after his retirement he raised beef cows and spent his winters in Florida. He also enjoyed hunting and being with his family.

    He was the father of the late Lisa Taylor in 1963.

    Survivors include his wife Janet L. Slocum Taylor of Elba; four daughters, Rebecca (Donald) Kelly of Le Roy, Cindy (Eric) Wilsey of Marshall, Va., Michele Shaffer of Elba and Jill (Dino) D'Angelo of Buffalo; a brother, Theodore Taylor of Rushford; a sister, Shirley Adams of Stevensville, Mich.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main St., Batavia. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba. The family suggests memorials be made to the Elba Rescue Squad, Elba NY 14058 or the Lake Plains Dialysis Center in Batavia.
