"The last surviving member of John Logan post, No. 64, G.A.R., of St. James, Minn., took part in a reunion Sunday. Not with gray-haired Civil war veterans, but with members of his family. At a dinner table at the Nicollet hotel, Minneapolis, Urban H. Palmer, saw his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren assembled together for the first time Sunday afternoon.

'From now on,' explained the 87 year-old veteran, 'I'm going to get this family of mine together more often. Now that I'm feeling better I like this idea of having a family reunion.'

Back in 1992, when the John Logan post was organized, there were 72 members. Later on the membership increased to 100. Now there's only Urban Palmer left. Conrad Rasey, who, with Palmer continued the post, died three years ago.

Palmer, who walks with a crutch and who has been troubled in the past with arthritis, is now a resident of the Minnesota Soldiers' home. He was born in New York state and came to Olmstead county, Minn., to take charge of a large when farm. He left farming to 'march with Sherman to the sea' and then returned to the business of farming near St. James. Just now he is everything there is to be in the John A Logan post of the G.A.R.

With him at the reunion dinner Sunday were his wife, his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Palmer of Minneapolis; his grandson, Stanley Palmer, and Mrs. Palmer; a grand-daughter, Gloria Palmer; a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Cooke of Superior, Wis., and Mrs. Frank Broz of Minneapolis, mother of Mrs. Stanley Palmer."8
