"Perhaps the saddest blow that has come to any family in this town this year occurred Thursday, May 15, when Roy Van Dusen died in the Dr. Mountain Clinic at Olean.

Two of his children, Loren and Percy, had scarlet fever and the family was quarantined. Wednesday, May 7, Roy was taken sick with severe pains in his head. His case was a peculiar one, and Dr. Mountain of Olean was called, who advised taking him to the hospital. At the hospital he was operated on for an abscess behind the eye, a most delicate operation being performed, but later septicemia developed, which caused his death.

Roy Van Dusen was born on the Van Dusen farm in Podonque, May 14, 18J7, the son of Jacob and Percy White Van Dusen and was one of ten children and the first to die among them. He married Lura Armstrong and to them four children were born, Loren, Clarise, Evelyn and Percy.

While the B. & S. railroad was in operation he owned a store at Rushford Station and enjoyed a very good business; but after the railroad shut down he closed the store and moved onto the old Van Dusen homestead.

Roy was a very pleasant man, good hearted, generous and loved by everyone with whom he came in contact. All who knew him feel that they have lost a sincere friend.

The funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Carrie Daley at East Rushford Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. His seven brothers and two sisters were present, besides other relatives from out of town. Rev. Ryder officiated at the services and he was laid to rest in the White cemetery."9,10,11,12
